The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) opened the new Vikhroli Road Overbridge last Saturday, connecting Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg in Vikhroli West to the Eastern Express Highway in Vikhroli East. Officials decided against a formal inauguration, citing urgency during the monsoon season.
Built to Ease Gridlock and Save Time
The 615-meter-long flyover spans the railway tracks and is 12 meters wide.Constructed in three phases, it features 18 spans and 19 supporting piers 12 on the eastern side and 7 on the west. The structure includes safety features like traffic signals, continuous load testing, cat eyes, speed breakers, and a traffic holding bay.
Mumbai commuters can now expect to save up to 30 minutes per trip between Vikhroli East and West, especially during peak hours. While through traffic will improve, local roads near internal lanes may still face congestion.
Monsoon-Driven Timing and Public Convenience
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis posted on social media that he ordered the bridge to open immediately to ease monsoon-induced traffic delays. The bridge reached structural completion by May 31, and officials finalized road markings, noise barriers, and lane signage ahead of the opening.

This flyover offers a critical connection within Mumbai’s east-west transport corridor, bridging major roads like LBS Marg, Eastern Express Highway, and the well-known Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR).
