Tatkal Ticket Bookings: Indian Railways will enforce new rules for Tatkal bookings starting July 1, 2025. These changes aim to curb misuse and protect users by ensuring only verified travelers access emergency tickets.

Aadhaar Authentication Mandatory Online

From July 1, IRCTC will accept Tatkal ticket bookings only from Aadhaar-authenticated users. Travelers must link and verify their Aadhaar number before July 2025 to avoid booking delays. This step aims to restrict bots and unauthorized operators from swooping in during booking windows.

OTP Verification from July 15 Across Channels

From July 15, Railways will enforce an additional layer of security: an Aadhaar-based OTP during Tatkal bookings. This will apply to online, PRS counter, and agent-issued tickets. Each booking must be confirmed via OTP sent to the traveler’s registered mobile number.

Agent Restrictions Ensure Fair Access

To give genuine users a fighting chance, agents will not be allowed to book Tatkal in the first 30 minutes of the window. They will face a ban from 10:00-10:30 AM for AC classes and 11:00-11:30 AM for non-AC tickets. This aims to level the field when demand peaks immediately after the booking opens.

Conclusion:

By introducing Aadhaar linking, OTP verification, and agent restrictions, Indian Railways intends to ensure fairness and deter misuse in Tatkal bookings. Travelers should complete Aadhaar linkage and plan accordingly before July 1.
